Places for Motorsports events in the Kanto area

Mobara Twin Circuit - Good place to watch locals and amatuers.  Even some pro drifters come to Mobara for practice.  I have run a time trial at Mobara.  It is fun but tight.  I never shifted out of 2nd gear.

Driving to Mobara from Tokyo, Take the Wangan Expressway to the Aqua Line, Exit the Kisarazu IC and take a right onto R409, in the Mobara direction.  When you get to R128 turn right onto R128 and head towards the Ootaki direction.  Mobara Circuit is located on R128
You can take a bus to Mobara Circuit from the JR Mobara Station.  Take the Number 1 bus and get off at Daida Seki, and walk for about 3 minutes.

Tsukuba Circuit Great place for watching and enjoying motorports.  Many good festivals are held at Tsukuba throughout the year.  Hot Version, Option, Best Motoring often have events that are coordinated with a festival or race weekend.

Driving to Tsukuba Circuit from Tokyo, Take the Shuto Expressway to the Joban Highway headed for  Mito.  Exit the Yawara IC.  Take the R294 to the R294 Bypass heading towards the Mizukaido direction.  Drive for about 16km, look for the Tsukuba Circuit.  Turn left 2 signals lights after the Tsukuba Circuit sign and drive for about 5km.  After passing 2 7-Elevens there will be a signla light, turn right at that traffic signal light.    After that you will see the Tsukuba Circuit entry and signs.
The trip might take about 2 hours from Tokyo.

Access to Tsukuba by train and taxi
From Ueno station take the JR Tohoku line to JR Furukawa Station.  (1 hour)Take a taxi from JR Furukawa station to Tsukuba Circuit (40 minutes)
UPDATE as of August 2005 the Tsukuba Express can take you from Akihabara to Tsukuba.  You will still need a taxi from Tsukuba station to the race track.

From Tokyo take the Tohoku Highway to the Utsunomiya IC.  Exit at the Utsunomiya IC and go towards the R293 direction.  After following R293 for a while you will reach the entrance to a toll road.  DO NOT enter the toll road.  Instead, turn right at the traffic signal, and head towards the Ujike direction.  When you arrive at the Tokujiro Intersection (note a 7-Eleven near by) go straight across the intersection and the entrance to Nikko Circuit will be on the left side after about 1.5 km.
If you can read Japanese, check their website for pictures and a good set of directions.

Odaiba - Twice a year the D1 Grand Prix hosts events at Odaiba.  These are good events because Odaiba is accessible from Tokyo by train and subway.
Odaiba - Acessible via public transportation.  From Tokyo JR Yamanote line, get off at Shinbashi station.  Exit the station and walk towards the Yurikamome Monorail Station.  take the monorail to Odaiba.  For the D1 you can get off at the Daiba station.  There is much to do at Odaiba year round.  While at Odaiba you can also check out Toyota's Megawaeb, a grand showroom of Toyota Cars and trucks.

Fuji Speedway - Fuji speedway was reopned in 2005 after major rennovations.  Fuji Speedway has a very long main straight which makes watching racing very enjoyable.  What Fuji Speedway is lacking are other attractions other than than the track.  Check the website for events.  Fuji also has a small course which is used by amatuers and clubs.
From Tokyo take the Tomei Highway and exit at the Gotemba IC. (1 Hour)  Take exit #1 towards R246.  Take a right on R246.  Follow signs and look for Fuji Speedway East gate.  15 Minutes from Gotemba IC.
